Malawians have been urged to intensify prayers for the country’s security.

Founder of the Living Word Evangelistic Church (Liwec) in Machinga, Phophet David Mbewe, made the call during New Year’s prayers last week.

“We have to pray for our country; so that we should not experience what we went through last year. Pray for the tightening of security in 2015 as 2014 had so many robberies,” said Mbewe.

He also said there was a need to pray against the spirit of disobedience in families.

Notable personalities who attended the prayers included former deputy minister of health Harima Daudi, musician Joseph Nkasa, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu (who led the intercessory prayers) and MP for Mulanje South Bon Kalindo.

Attendants to the prayers wore white to synchronise with the theme “Be the shining star in 2015.”

Mbewe also administered Holy Communion, prayed for the sick and led the lighting of candles for the church to symbolise ushering in of the New Year.
