After performing at Jazz Café last Saturday and Sunday, Kupeza Chambo takes ethno-musician and saxophonist Rick Deja to Mibawa Café on Wednesday.

This is part of a nation-wide tour as he shoots a second installment of Telling Our Stories documentary after the first which featured fallen acoustic artist Stonald Lungu.

During the show, Deja is expected to be supported by gospel musician Faith Mussa, ethno-musician, Waliko Makhala and Agorosso.

In an exclusive interview with The Nation, Deja said he would like to make known the AfroVibe which is a danceable beat created by blending Malawian beat and jazz.

“We have also incorporated Mussa because though he is considered a gospel musician, he has an afro side to him. For instance, his song Pamudzi Pano is purely a traditional beat,” said Deja.

He also said Mussa will still perform some of his usual songs but will take on the afro beat.

“We would like to present how we can fuse different genres. For example, hip hop can be fused with jazz and other genres. For instance, one of the groups that inspire me, Freshly Grounds, successfully fuses a number of genres and we can learn from that,” said Deja.
