Sem Cris joins the cholera fight

As the country continues to grapple with the cholera outbreak, several stakeholders have intensified efforts to contain the public health threat.

The damage that the outbreak has caused has forced hip hop artist Sem Cris to do a song titled Cholera which is preaching about the dangers of the disease and what people can do to prevent it.

The song has been done in some unconventional hip hop style and the way he lays down the case about the dangers of the disease is captivating. He has transformed the basic everyday messages such as washing hands before eating and covering food and presented them in such an interesting way.

It is clear he knew what he wanted to achieve with the song. He does not mince words but reminds everyone that if they  do not follow good hygiene practices, they can die.

Sem Cris: I am teaching people

Kodi mwamva? Chani? Anthu akudiwa kodi mwamva? Kaoneni ku Central, kodi mwamva? Cholera yavuta kodi mwamva? Wina wafa. Wangogwa kubafa. Akuti samatha anadya mango ndi magwafa osatsuka”…goes the song in part.

In an interview, Sem Cris said he was moved by the love and care he feels for the people and decided to come up with something that can reach out to a lot of people in an effort to save lives.

“I am teaching people how they can observe good hygiene standards to protect themselves from the cholera outbreak. It is a reminder of the things we look at as basic, but which are crucial and directly linked to our life,” he said.

The artist said he is impressed with the reception of the song by his fans.

The song was recorded at M’bebe Studio and was produced by Kwemoo.

One music follower, Chipiliro Kwendakufa said of the song on Facebook: “The song is nice. It is showing everything that is involved in the cholera fight. I like his effort.”

Sem Cris, real name Chrispin Semu, started his music career in 2015 at Mtima Woyera Parish in Lilongwe where he was a member of the choir. He got his first breakthrough as an artist when he collaborated with rapper Henry Czar in 2018.

The Lilongwe-based artist released an extended play titled Moto in 2021 and he also has several singles under his name.
