Silver dare coaches

Silver Strikers have said the current Leo Mpulula-led coaching panel could be maintained next season depending on its performance between now and the end of the season.

The position comes after the Central Bankers advertised the position of head coach which has attracted both local and foreign applicants. The closing date for receiving applications was Friday.

In an interview on Sunday, the Reserve Bank of Malawi-sponsored club’s chief executive officer Thokozani Chimbali said: “Yes, we advertised the post, but it should be known that the current set-up’s fate is dependent on the team’s performance between now and December.

“If they do well, then, surely, we’ll stick to them.”

Although no targets were officially set for the current coaching panel, Silver expect them to finish in the top four and reach the semi-finals of the Airtel Top 8.

Silver’s chances of finishing in the top four are slim as they are fifth on 58 points with only one game before they wrap up the season.

They are two points behind fourth-placed Mukuru Wanderers who have four games to go while third-placed Kamuzu Barracks have 51 points with three games to wind up their campaign.

In an interview yesterday, Mpulula said it is a tall order to finish in the top four.

He said: “We are up to the challenge, but remember we came in with only seven matches to go, it would have been different had we come in a bit earlier.”

For the first time in awhile, Silver have won back-to-back against Kamuzu Barracks 2-1 and Salima Sugar Dedza Dynamos 1-0.

Meanwhile, Silver have received applications from a number of foreigners for the post of head coach.
