TNM, sponsor of the Super League of Malawi (Sulom), has written the league administrators, asking for a comprehensive report on the violence that occurred at Balaka Stadium last Saturday during the game between Mighty Wanderers and Silver Strikers.

The fracas led to the death of one fan, Lemiyasi Josita, of Bwanje in Ntcheu while scores of other fans were  injured.

TNM is reported to have given Sulom seven days, from December 30 2013, to submit the report.

TNM head of marketing Sobhuza Ngwenya confirmed to The Nation having written Sulom on the matter.

“It is true, we have specifically asked Sulom to give us a comprehensive report on what really transpired and what measures would be put in place to ensure a violence-free league.

“Of course, they have copied us a copy of their verdict, but we will not be able to determine the way forward until we get a comprehensive report because that is more important,” said Ngwenya.

Sulom general secretary Williams Banda confirmed receiving the letter from TNM, and said the issue was in the hands of the body’s president, Innocent Bottomani. Bottomani could not be reached for comment yesterday. n
