College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex has identified a trainer, Smickey Chiula, for Mr. Malawi Bodybuilding Championship runner-up Yasin ‘Ichocho’ Suwedi ahead of the forthcoming national championships.

Previously, Ichocho was training alone after securing CoM sponsorship early this year.

Chiula, who holds a bachelors degree in exercise, nutrition and health and a master’s degree in nutrition and food science from the University of Central Lancashire, UK, has already started drilling Ichocho.

Chiula said after a week working with Ichocho, he has noted a number of weaknesses, which must be rectified before the athlete participates in the next Mr Malawi event in October.

“My first challenge is to make sure that his upper body is proportional to his legs. I would also like to see his shoulders and back fully developed. I am happy that I have an athlete who seems to love the sport and is willing to learn,” he said.

According to Chiula, the weaknesses he has noted in Ichocho, such as the disproportionate body and muscle tone, are some of the main challenges that affect African contestants at international events.

Ichocho said he is happy that he has an educated and experienced trainer who will help to take his career to a higher level.

“I thank Sports Complex for identifying such a good coach. Now, I do not see why I should not grab the Mr. Malawi title this year,” he said.
