St James CCAP Church has requested companies and organisations to register for a charity golf tournament at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) on August 22 to help it raise at least K400 million (about $105 000).

Speaking during a press briefing at BSC on Wednesday, the church’s fundraising committee chairperson Frank Jomo, accompanied by other committee members David Phiri and Cyrus Msowoya said the main raised will go towards a project which comprises Under-five clinic, a high school and a multipurpose hall.

He said the project, which is expected to benefit the community around their church in Zingwangwa Township, Blantyre, started and stalled at foundation level in 2005 due to lack of funds.

Jomo said they are determined to complete it within the next five years.

“We need at least 40 teams of two players each to compete for a noble cause. An entry fee per team is K50 000, but companies that can manage can pay more than that. Despite the church initiating the project, many people regardless of their religious affiliations will benefit from it,” he said.

According to Phiri, South African Airways (SAA) has already started making a contributed towards the cause by offering return air ticket to South Africa which will be auctioned during the prize presentation ceremony.

He said the golf tournament will be played using a two-better-ball format.
