Standard Bank of Malawi has said they have not given up on netball sponsorship despite a two-year absence.

According to the bank’s communications manager Chimwemwe Matonga, they are yet to finalise talks with Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) on the issue and once that is done, the sponsorship will resume.

“Discussions are still happening. We hope we can finalise and come to a conclusion. Our door has been open and we are looking forward to receiving a proposal from the NAM on their plans for this year or next year,” said Matonga on the sidelines of the Standard Bank reception hosted for Silver Strikers at Ufulu Gardens on Saturdaynight.

Matonga said they want commitment from NAM in terms of proper administration.

“As a bank, we are always moving forward and we want to work with people that will adhere to our motto,” said Matonga.

In a related development, Matonga said:

“We have seen an increase in the number customers in eight years we have been sponsoring football. For one to vote, they have to open an account. We have seen progress in that a lot of people have opened their accounts with us. The investment has been worth it,” said Matonga.

Standard Bank used to sponsor netball at the tune of K3 million (about $7 894).
