Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has blamed clubs for the transfer disorder, claiming that in most cases they are not informed about the deals.

Sulom president Innocent Bottomani was reacting to Azam Tigers chairperson Sydney Chikoti’s claims that the flagship league practices double standards in dealing with player transfers on the local market.

Bottomani claimed that clubs only seek Sulom’s intervention when things go wrong.

“In most cases, the clubs disregard us when it comes to updates and agreements on transfer deals, but when things go wrong, they seek our intervention, a situation that is unfortunate.

“A good example is the case in question of the three Tigers players [Mike Kaziputa, Kondwani Kumwenda and Kondwani Lufeyo whereby Tigers did not bother to inform us about the transfer negotiations and only came to us when things went wrong with payment,” said Bottomani.

He dismissed Tigers’ claims that despite being approached to mediate on the issue, Sulom has done nothing about it.

“When Tigers took up the matter with us, we planned to mediate and summoned both clubs. At first, Azam Tigers general secretary Geoff Kachaleexcused himself as he was attending to other commitments outside the country.

“When we tried to arrange for another  meeting, Tigers technical director Robin Alufandika was forthcoming, but this time it was Wanderers who excused themselves because their legal adviser [David Kanyenda] was not available. Since then, the situation has been like that and we have not been able to conclude the issue,” he said.

The Sulom president said they were able to act promptly on the case between Silver Strikers and Kamuzu Barracks (KB) because they were updated on the discussions right from the beginning.

“Nevertheless, we will make sure that we get to the bottom of the issue. I can assure Tigers that the matter will be sorted out,” he said.

Chikoti bemoaned the manner in which Sulom was handling the movement of their three players to Wanderers.

“Despite several correspondences, Sulom has decided not to act on our issues. All we get are excuses rather than action on this straight forward matter,” claimed Chikoti.
