The venue for the March 14 2015 Super League of Malawi (Sulom) elections has changed from Sunbird Mzuzu to Sunbird Livingstonia in Salima.

Sulom executive member Kazizwa Banda told The Nation on Tuesday that the initial plan was that the elections would take place in the Northern Region, but he has learnt lately that the venue has changed to Salima.

“I received communication that the venue has changed. Obviously, the development will disappoint affiliates in the North, but there is nothing I can do about that arrangement, we will just follow what has been decided,” said Banda.

The previous Sulom elections in 2011 were held at Sunbird Lilongwe.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda said the association is yet to receive communication on Sulom’s change of venue for the elections.

“We are yet to get that correspondence, but I am sure they will do that soon” he said.

Sulom treasurer Tiya Somba Banda said venues for Sulom activities are decided by the executive and due to logistical costs the executive considered it wise to change the venue from Mzuzu to Salima.

“Actually, it is not in our regulations that we should be rotating venues for elections. At the last annual general meeting (AGM) held in Lilongwe, it was agreed to hold the elections in Mzuzu, but the executive committee later found it necessary to change the venue to minimise transport costs,” said Somba-Banda.
