Teenager earns 7 years IHL for defilement

Machinga First Grade Magistrate’s Court has sentenced Square Chiwisa, 19, to seven years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL) for defiling a 13-year-old girl.

According to Machinga Police spokesperson Andrew Mayawo, the incident occurred between June 6 and 9 when the victim’s parents returned from harvesting rice at their garden to find that the girl was missing.

He said some people tipped off the parents that their daughter was living with Chiwisa. The convict comes from Namphiwa Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Kawinga in the district.
