Theo Thomson’s Awake on MTV

Malawi’s R&B sensation Theo Thomson’s Awake video has made its appearance on Africa’s number one music channel MTVbase.

Awake is a love song that centres on a man’s insomnia state because of some beautiful girl that he has a crush on although he is not brave enough to face her to declare his feelings.

In an interview with On the Arts, Thomson said he submitted the video to MTVbase a month ago after he noted a vacuum of Malawian artists on international TV.

“It’s been long since we saw a Malawian song being played on international TV so I took the privilege to sit down and make a good video produced by the best producers with an aim to put Malawi back on the map,” he said.

He disclosed that Awake video was produced with special attention with the aim of making it qualifying for international TV. Thomson says it took about three months to shoot the video being produced by Ron-C-Z of Matalala Records.

The artist also intends on releasing another music video in December, with the intention of submitting it to MTV again before he releases his album Gypsy: Awake early next year.

However, the singer, songwriter and dancer says a lot depends on Malawians as their support will determine whether the video gets more airplay or not.

This is not the first time for Theo Thomson to make an appearance on the international stage. He also performed in front of a continental audience at the Big Brother Revolution eviction show in 2009.
