Thindwa in golden boot chasing pack

Last season’s TNM Super League Golden Boot Award winner Ishmael Thindwa of Epac FC has joined the chasing pack for this campaigns’s top scorer race on 10 goals.

Thindwa is scoring consistently in the second phase, lying three goals behind current leading scorer Vincent Chinthenga of Bvumbwe Research.

Thindwa won the award on 18 goals last season. Other players chasing Chinthenga are Sparrow Msowoya and Brown Mizeye of Blantyre United, who have 12 goals apiece.

Mafco’s Osward Nkagula lies third on 11 goals followed by Silver Strikers’ Rodrick Gonani, with 10 goals.

Overall, Super League of Malawi statistics show that 486 goals have been registered so far in 182 games with leaders, Silver Strikers, contributing the most, 53 goals, one in front of second-positioned Blantyre United.

In contrast, Kabwafu FC have the worst defence in the league having leaked in 54 goals. Third-placed Bullets have the strongest defence after letting in the least, 21 goals.

“Despite dropping four points on their away assignments the, the bankers still remain in strong position to retain the title, but Big Bullets and Blantyre United are hot contenders pending any more slips from the bankers,” reads a statement from Sulom.

There are 28 games to go before the end of the season next month.
