The life of the executive director for Step Kids Awareness (Steka), Godknows Maseko is in danger after five unknown thugs have threatened to kill him. In confirming the development, Maseko, who is keeping 41 children, Maseko told The Nation that he has reported the matter to Ndirande and Blantyre Police.

“It was on Friday around 5pm when I sent a 13-year-old boy to the market. About five metres outside the main gate, he met five people who were in two vehicles.

They produced a photo that carried my face. He was asked to identify the face on the picture, but he denied.

“After some minutes they showed him a gun, and told him that they will deal with Maseko once they meet him,” said Maseko on Saturday at his house.

Maseko said he is now living in fear. “I am worried about the children because for them to eat I need to go out and look for food but since Friday, I haven’t gone out of the house,” he said

A friend of Steka Dr Kevin Mortimer from Liverpool visited the house on Saturday and he appealed for support from the general public.

“What happened will disturb even the children; the money that is meant for them will be used to hire the police for security. If anyone has issues with Maseko he or she should come forward and allow discussions not planning evil,” said Mortimer.
