Leaders Tigresses, defending champions Diamonds and MTL Queens maintained their winning streak with emphatic triumphs in the 2013/14 OG Issa Southern Region Netball League (SRNL) on Sunday at St Andrew’s International High School.

Tigresses kept a tight grip of the leadership when they beat Prison Sisters 75-28 while Diamonds consolidated their fourth-place position with a rampant 100-9 win over Aquaid Queens.

MTL Queens displaced Woget Stars from the second slot with a 56-22 thumping. On the same day, MTL Queens also thrashed Chitakale Sisters (94-16) and Shizaella Queens (69-11).

Meanwhile, Tigresses lead the 13-team table with 27 points from nine straight wins whereas Diamonds have 18 points from six games. MTL Queens are tied on third place with 21 points with Woget Stars, but the Queens have a better goal aggregate. The Queens won all their seven games but the Stars won seven of their 11 encounters.

Diamonds, Tigresses and MTL Queens admitted on Sunday that their victories are meant to seal the score margin gaps that might end up deciding the winner at the end of the season which is about to wind up first round fixtures.

Last season, Diamonds were assured of the title before they faced Tigresses in the final game due to better score difference.

SRNL general secretary Annie Hanjahanja Billie said the teams will keep on playing their games at St Andrew’s because of the rains which make the Blantyre Youth Centre courts unplayable.
