Big Bullets shelved their on and off field setbacks to beat Fomboni Club du Moheil 1-0 at Stade De Moroni in the Comoros yesterday.

Substitute Tizgobere Kumwenda scored with a long range shot in added time to hand Bullets a happy return to continental football they last played in 2004.

Kumwenda had replaced former Blantyre United teammate Victor Limbani in the second half to snatch the valuable points.

The win in the preliminary round, first-leg match monitored on Matindi Radio, gives Bullets a psychological advantage ahead of the second leg this month end in Malawi, said coach Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan.

“This is like the first-half. We now know how they play. It was a good game. We dominated the game, but in the wrong areas.

“In the first-half, we were playing too deep. If we meet them in the return leg, we can hammer them by at least four goals,” Ramadhan told Matindi FM.

Going into the Champions League, Bullets were hit by funding problems and the ruling out of four players, including new signings Owen Chaima and Chiukepo Msowoya.

The overall winner of the preliminary round will date either Al Hilal of Sudan or KMKM of Tanzania who were meeting as we went to press.

Bullets squad: Vincent Gona, Pilirani Zonda, Sankhani Mkandawire, Yamikani Fodya, Bashir Maunde (Miracle Gabeya), Dave Ng’ambi, James Chilapondwa, Henry Kabichi,  Fischer Kondowe, Victor Limbani (Tizgobere Kumwenda), Mussa Manyenje (Jaffalie Chande).
