Usi explains silence on Kale

Renowned comedian Michael Usi has said it is not former president the late Bingu Wa Mutharika or President Joyce Banda who have hindered the release of Kale.

He said this in an interview on MBC-TV on Tuesday (Kamuzu Day) when he commented on the life and leadership of the country’s first president the late Hastings Kamuzu Banda.

Usi claimed he did a research on who is blocking the release of his two projects which established that Bingu and Banda are not playing a role.

“I did a research. It is not these two, but junior politicians in government who are doing that because of inferiority complex,” he said.

Usi revealed that he has been stopped twice from recording the play. The first, he says, was at Chichiri and then at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Blantyre.

“In both cases, I had obtained official permission to go ahead, but was stopped. Even the communication I got during these two times was clear that it was not from the highest office. “Akuti musapitirize (They say don’t proceed with the recording,” said Usi, laughing.

The actor says he wants Malawians to celebrate the life of Kamuzu in a film.

He says the film describes the life of the former president from the time he came to Malawi to the last day of his life.

However, Usi says for that to be successful, he needs support from government.

“They should allow me to use a helicopter, a motorcade with the limousine and motorbikes in Kamuzu Highway. Some people outside the country have pledged to help me produce the movie and they shared with me some notes about the former president’s life when he was abroad,” he said.

Usi said he has lost huge sums of money due to postponements of the shooting of the play.

“I pay all the people you see in the play. I pay for their insurance and when they stop me, all the money goes into drain,” lamented Usi.
