Wanderers accuse BB of bewitching ‘Megadinho’

In a rather comical development, Mighty Wanderers have accused their age-old rivals Big Bullets of bewitching their promising gem Omega Mhone.

The player has become an instant hit since joining the Nomads at the start of the season that fans have nicknamed him ‘Megadinho’.

Nomads general secretary David Kanyenda made the stunning claims in an interview on Wednesday, saying the player developed strange illness soon after their Super League game against Bullets.

“This is not a joke, we are serious. Soon after the game against Bullets, Omega developed some strange symptoms and I personally took him to a hospital where thorough tests were conducted, but doctors were unable to diagnose any illness.

“We then sought the help of a ‘sing’anga’ [witch doctor] who told us that our arch-rivals had cast a spell on the boy. Now, who are our arch-rivals? It is Bullets.

“And looking at the sequence of events, we cannot agree more because he became ill soon after the game against Bullets and we are not amused,” said Kanyenda.

He said the player has since been sent back to his home village in Nkhata Bay to seek further help.

But Kanyenda could not be drawn to give the name of the witchdoctor who attended to Mhone.

“That is confidential. For the sake of his privacy, we are not going to disclose his identity, but that is the fact of the matter,” he said.

Omega could not be reached for comment, but his relation, Abraham Nyirongo, confirmed the illness.

“He is here at home for further observation and treatment, but our major concern is that Wanderers did not give him enough money for his further treatment and transport back to Blantyre. They only gave him K16 000 (about $40),” said Nyirongo.

Kanyenda played down the monetary issue saying: “Officials and supporters contributed money for his trip back home, so it is not true to suggest that we abandoned him. Should there be need for more money, we can always sort that out,” said Kanyenda.

However, Bullets general secretary laughed off Kanyenda’s claims.

“To begin with, we do not even know this boy. Who is he? Even if we were to cast a spell on Wanderers players, would we have done that with the likes of Jack Chamangwana, Barnett Gondwe, Joseph Kamwendo, Kennedy, Holman and Leonard Malunga and the Mpinganjira brothers—Bob and Albert?

“I think there is something wrong with my colleague Kanyenda. He is losing sense of direction and needs help. On a serious note, Wanderers should consider sending him to a mental hospital for tests. Otherwise, he has the potential to ruin the reputation of the team because of what he says. Maybe he has turned into a comedian,” said Mkandawire.

During the game against Bullets, Mhone failed to rise to the occasion and had to be substituted for Tony Chitsulo in the game which ended in 1-1 draw.
