Wanderers sale drive halted

Mighty Wanders Football Club have temporarily shelved their commercialisation drive after facing what they call legal hitches.

Wanderers were supposed to launch an SMS campaign as part of the commercialisation drive leading to self dependency.

The club’s chairperson George Chamangwana’s friends from South Africa donated a minibus and three television sets that were to be used as prizes during the fundraising campaign.

In an interview with the club’s general secretary, Mike Butao on Wednesday, he confirmed that they are not going ahead with the campaign.

“We had everything planned and ready to roll out. We had planned to use both Airtel and TNM subscribers in our campaign just to have a large catchment.

“But when we sold our idea to Sulom, they in return consulted TNM who we were told opposed using Airtel mobile service,” said Butao.

He said there is a clause in the TNM-Sulom contract which said Super League clubs shall not deal in any football related business with a rival mobile company

Butao, however, said this is not the end of the project.

“Of course, it is a setback, but we are not abandoning the project.”
