“It shows that the world boxing body appreciates our work and the efforts we are making to develop the sport.

“We stand to gain a lot from the WBC convention in terms of new rules and the modern ways of administering the sport.”

The invitation letter, signed by the council’s president Mauricio Sulaiman, reads in part: “Being yourself an active member of the World Boxing Council and since this convention will deal with a number of important matters of the benefit of boxing in your country, as well as in the world, your attendance is very important.

“Please make your best effort to be here, participate and be part of the world to keep our WBC as strong and vibrant as ever.”

A statement issued by WBC says preparations for the event are at an advanced stage.

It reads: “WBC is preparing a convention full of magic and a lot of boxing, where surprises will be added to this great celebration.

“We will have the presence of hundreds of our beloved champions and former world champions, promoters and various international boxing stars.”

It adds that there will also be presentations, a medical seminar, approval of world rankings, a mandatory fight session, seminars for ring officials, judges and referees.

“All of the above with the firm purpose of enriching and updating boxing, always thinking about the safety and health of the boxer,”the statement further reads.
