Weightlifting body election on June 14
Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi (Wbam) will finally hold their elective annual general meeting (AGM) on June 14.
Wbam president Richard Kuwali announced the news yesterday at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe. He said eight positions are up for grabs at the AGM which will take place at Kamuzu Institute for Sports.
“We were supposed to hold this AGM in March, but were advised by Sports Council to hold the Presidential Initiative on Sports (PIS) weightlifting tournament first. We are encouraging all who wish to hold positions to present their names to our secretariat,” said Kuwali.
He also encouraging ladies to seek executive positions.
“We have few lady weightlifters in the country. We want the sport to have an appeal to girls and ladies and for that to happen we need to have ladies in the executive committee. They will inspire girls to join the sport,” said Kuwali.
He has since appealed to all those interested to contest for various positions to submit their names to the general secretary Harold Mwanayanga by calling him on +265-88899187.
In a related development, Kuwali said Wbam will conduct weightlifting youth identification exercise in all the regions of the country soon after the AGM.
