Karonga Police spokesperson Enock Livason on Monday said one of the men promised to marry Kamwera, but she got pregnant by the other man who had no intentions of marrying her. The man that got her pregnant refused to marry her after she gave birth.

The suspect then resorted to killing the child to convince the man that had promised to marry her, according to Livason.

The development comes after Paramount Chief Kyungu condemned murder cases in the district.

Kyungu noted that the cases were on the rise and feared that such cases would scare away investors and tourists.

Northern Region Commissioner of Police Martha Suwedi also recently condemned cases of murder in the region, saying they are frustrating development. n
