Yao Bible on the cards

Listen to this article

Yao-speaking Christians will now have the comfort of reading holy scriptures in their own language, thanks to a 15-year translation project by the Bible Society of Malawi (BSM).

BSM executive director Clapperton Mayuni said the Society has completed translating the Bible into Yao and production of the first copies may start soon.

Mayuni was, however, quick to explain that production of the first lot of the holy book will depend on the availability of resources as the Society is currently raising funds for the project.

“We are in need of funds for the production of first 5 000 copies of the Yao Bible. The total cost is currently projected at K7.5 million,” said Mayuni.

He said BSM has lined up a series of activities in an effort to raise the money.

Notable among the activities is a dinner to be held at Mount Soche Hotel on November 29 2013 where companies and business-people will have a chance to showcase their goods and services upon paying a fee.

The fee will automatically buy business captains time to distribute promotional materials and make short presentations of their goods and services.

Mayuni appealed for support of any kind for the project.
