Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church says youths’ active participation in churches can help ease leadership succession.
Elder Fanuel Nkhono of Blantyre Kabula Adventist Church was speaking on Saturday last week during the World Pathfinders Day.
This is a youths’ day celebrated by Adventists yearly. Pathfinders is a department of the SDA, which works specifically with the cultural, social and religious education of children and adolescents.
Nkhono said youths should not be referred to as future leaders, but should be allowed to participate in leading roles to gain knowledge.
“The youths should rise up and be counted on. Government wants future leaders and the church should start investing in them,” said Nkhono.
During the day, the members had a parade before raising three flags symbolising leadership and obedience.
Youth director James Maunjili expressed gratitude for the church’s recognition of its young congregants.
The message of the day came from Pastor Eliezer Mthunzi who encouraged the church not to condemn the youths, but direct them in right ways.
“As parents and church leaders, we should love and understand the youths. We need to support and mentor them in ministry.
“God used young men and they can still be used. Parents should lead by example to mould their children,” said Mthunzi
