Former Silver Strikers forward Chawanangwa Kawonga struck a brace to guide Chibuto FC to a 3-1 win over Ferroviario de Beira in a Mozambique league match played on Wednesday afternoon in Chibuto Town.

Chibuto are relegation threatened while lying 14th on 13 points from 12 games on the 16 team league, hence shelved their plans of sending the former Malawi Under-20 striker Kawonga to Portugal for trials with an unnamed club.

In other midweek Mozambique league matches involving Malawians, goalkeeper Simplex Nthala was between the sticks as leaders Maxaquene saw off hosts Ferroviario de Quelimane who got their consolation through a penalty kick. Quelimane anchor the table on nine points.

The Mambas striker Isac netted a double for Maxaquene who lead the standings on 26 points, four points ahead of second-placed Liga Desportivo de Maputo who won 3-1 against Ferroviaro de Nampula also on Wednesday.
