TNM Super league giants Blantyre United will have to wait a little longer for the results of their bid for the K20 million (about $120 000) Kuku Matches sponsorship.

Euro Industries, Kuku manufacturers, was expected to announce the winner of the bid before the start of the 2012 season on May 12. However, the company’s chief executive officer Hossam Jussab on Thursday that the winner would be announced at the beginning of the 2013 season because only Blantyre United put up a proposal.

Said Jussab: “We will decide on the team next year. Our decision will come up after we receive more than one bid. So far, it is only Blantyre United that has bid. We want to evaluate proposals from a number of teams before making a choice. Therefore, we will wait until 2013.”

Nevertheless, Blantyre United coach Elia Kananji, whose side finished seventh in the Super League last season, yesterday expressed hope that they might still win it in the end.

“As the new season starts on May 12, we will struggle financially as we were hoping to win the Kuku sponsorship bid. However, we are still keeping our fingers crossed on this opportunity,” said Kananji.
