Mangochi bishop’s secretary killed in road accident

Mangochi Diocese Vicar General Father Andrew Nkhata died in a road accident on Monday night near Namiyasi Trading Centre along the Mangochi Monkey Bay Road in the district.

Mangochi Police Station assistant spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi confirmed the news, saying Nkhata was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mangochi District Hospital.

“Father Nkhata was driving from the direction of Monkey Bay to Mangochi Boma before his vehicle, a Toyota Corolla registration MH4446, collided with another vehicle registration BQ 1634,” she said.

Meanwhile, Mangochi Diocese communications secretary Father Emmanuel Malipa has described Nkhata’s death as a big blow to the diocese.

According to a programme the Episcopal Conference of Malawi released yesterday signed by its general secretary Father Henry Saindi, a farewell mass will be held today at St. Augustine Cathedral from 10am.

Thereafter, burial will be at St. Paul the Apostle Minor Seminary Cemetery.

Until his death Nkata, 47, was the officiating priest for Koche Parish in the district.

He came from Chakachadza Village, Traditional Authority Pemba in Dedza District.n
