Beleaguered MTV Max Bullets owner Max Kapanda has questioned whether fairplay indeed exists in football.

Kapanda was reacting to Football Association of Malawi (FAM) decision to suspend Fifa referee Patrick Ngoleka after finding him guilty of committing a serious technical error during their TNM Super League match against Epac FC in Lilongwe.

Max Bullets protested Ngoleka’s decision to award Epac a goal after he had earlier on blown for a foul against Max Bullets and the match was later on abandoned after Bullets refused to continue playing.

Following the abandonment of the match, the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) found Max Bullets guilty of causing the abandonment of the match and awarded it to Epac, a decision that led to the rookies pulling out from the league

“It was a serious technical error by someone who has a Fifa badge. After blowing for a foul against Max Bullets, he shouldn’t have allowed Epac to proceed with play and score a goal and for such a serious offence, he deserved a stiff punishment,” said FAM outgoing general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda.

And reacting to the verdict, Kapanda said: “We have been vindicated because we knew the referee lost the plot terribly. But then it won’t change anything, will it? And I wonder whether fairplay indeed exists in football as is widely propagated. We fought for the truth, but in the end the referee’s erroneous decision stood.”

Asked if his team is ready to return to the league now that they have been vindicated, Kapanda said: “Only if Sulom can reverse their decision to award the match to Epac and have it replayed. And also if they can reschedule all the games they awarded to other teams.” n
