In an effort to create increased knowledge of first aid among Malawians, the Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) is conducting Trainer of Trainers Trainings which are underway in the country.

Speaking in an interview with the Malawi News Agency (Mana), Malawi Red Cross president Levison Changole said they are conducting these trainings so that they can train more people who will in turn teach people in various parts of Malawi about first aid and safety.

“First aid is important because everyday different accidents that need it are happening everywhere. So, we are doing these trainings to make sure that we have well trained people in all places who can provide first aid to others who are in need,” said Changole.

Changole said there are a lot of people who need training countywide including companies which always need safety and accident prevention trainings.

He said some of the trainer of the trainers will be deployed in companies that will show interest in learning the safety measures needed in their setup.

Changole added the Trainer of trainers has its own registered members who have been taken from all the districts in the country which shows that the services will be delivered to areas far and wide.

The MRCS was formally established in 1932 as the Nyasaland branch of the British Red Cross. The branch became the Malawi Red Cross Society on January 13 1966. It joined the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on October 12 1971.

It calls for alleviating human suffering through carrying out relief activities, improvement of quality of life and dissemination of information of the Movement’s fundamental principles which are humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality.
