Flames coach Ernest Mtawali is in Mozambique to assess players and meet some of the coaches before he comes up with the list of foreign-based players for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Group L qualifier against Swaziland’s Sihlangu slated for September 6 away in Mbabane.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) general secretary SuzgoNyirenda yesterday confirmed that Mtawali flew out to Mozambique, capital Maputo on Saturday.

“He was supposed to watch the first game yesterday [Saturday] in which ChimangoKayira and Frank Banda were supposed to feature. He is also scheduled to watch another game today [yesterday] in which goalkeepers Simplex Nthala and Charles Swini’s teams are meeting.

“Of course, he cannot have a true reflection by just watching a few games, but he will also meet coaches of various clubs to find out how Malawian players are fairing and he hopes the initiative will help him choose players that are performing,” said Nyirenda.

The FAM GS said Mtawali is expected to return home tomorrow.
