Mzuni alumni fundraising to restock library

As one a way of fundraising for the re-stocking of the Mzuzu University (Mzuni) Library which was gutted by fire last December, Mzuni Alumni has organised a Dinner and Dance to be held at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe on 1st April 2016.

The former students also plan to use part of the raised finances for construction of toilets and procurement of classroom furniture.

In a Press Statement, spokesperson for the event who is also chairperson of the Mzuni Alumni Media Committee Clifton Kawanga said the Alumni realises its responsibility to give back to the University especially in this time of need.

“We are equally saddened by the loss of books and other equipment after the fire gutted down the library. We would like to join stakeholders and donors who are working tirelessly to assist the University financially and morally to restore the library’s operations,” said Kawanga.

He appealed to individuals, companies and organisations to support the cause adding that sponsorship categories and benefits of the same are available on request while individuals and alumni can pay K30,000 ($ to attend the dinner and dance.

According to Kawanga, Minister of Education, Science and Technology Dr Emmanuel Fabiano will be the Guest-of-Honour at the event.

He said so far, individuals, companies and organisations have pledged support financially and materially towards this event.

Since its inception in 1999, Mzuzu University has played a huge role in tertiary education in Malawi through a number of programmes.

Mzuzu University Alumni was formed in 2005 to uphold the values of the university by promoting and complementing its efforts in providing quality education, training and research and complementary services to meet the technological, social and economic needs of individuals and communities in Malawi and beyond.

Kawanga assured the funds will be used for the intended purpose and systems to account for the funds have been put in place.
