Malawi national football team (Flames) defender Harry Nyirenda is expected to resume full-time training on Monday after recovering from an ankle injury that has kept him idle for three months.

Nyirenda has been out since the first week of February after getting injured in training for his South African PSL side Black Leopards.

But on Tuesday he said he has recovered and has been given the greenlight to resume training next week.

“I am starting on Monday. It is just good that I will once again be playing football. It has been frustrating being on the sidelines,” he said.

The development will probably make Flames coach Kinnah Phiri smile as there were fears that Nyirenda would miss the Flames’ three crucial assignments in June.

The Flames date Kenya and Nigeria on June 2 and 8 respectively in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers and they will host Chad a week later in a 2013 Afcon qualifier.

The injury forced Nyirenda to miss Flames trip to Chad in February where they lost 3-2.

“I will be definitely fit and available for the Flames. The games are important for all of us to be available,” he said.

Leopards are currently fighting relegation and need to win both of their remaining league games to retain their PSL status.
