Defender George Nyirenda will not celebrate if his Zimbabwe’s Caps United beat former club Big Bullets in Thursday’s 2015 Zambezi Challenge Cup match at Kamuzu Stadium.

“My knee is giving me problems, so I will see during training if I’m playing. It is possible for us to beat Bullets as our team is united. If we beat them, I’m not celebrating. Bullets is my family,” said Nyirenda who signed for Caps last season.

The Zambezi Challenge defending champions made known their intention of retaining the cup when, despite fielding a second string side under assistant coach Brenna Msiska, defeated a full strength Silver Strikers 2-0 in Lilongwe on Sunday. The game was a warm-up to today’s second edition of the cup.

Playing a disciplined counterattacking game, Caps, whose main squad had another assignment under head coach Mark Harrison back home in Zimbabwe, punished Silver on the break with Gerald Phiri scoring in either half.

Phiri, who played as a false striker behind Ishmael Thindwa, said they go into the match against Bullets with a lot of confidence as “the pressure is on the Bullets since they have many fans who demand results.”

The match was previously slated for Lilongwe today, but it was rescheduled as the Bullets were travelling to the Lower Shire to visit flood victims.

The two teams have not met this decade in any competition. Last year, Caps saw off Silver and Mighty Wanderers to win the maiden Zambezi Cup edition at the Kamuzu Stadium.
