The long-awaited elections of board of directors for the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) will be held on December 20 2016, almost seven months after the expiry of mandate for the outgoing board.

PAC trustees extended the executive board’s mandate to continue operating after their three-year term of office expired in May 2016.

PAC spokesperson Father Peter Mulomole on Wednesday confirmed that a board meeting held in Blantyre yesterday agreed to hold the elections on December 20.

“As you know that our mandate expired in May this year, it has been agreed that the annual general meeting [AGM] should take place on December 20 2016 where the main agenda will be the election of new board of directors,” said Father Mulomole.

He said the AGM will strengthen PAC as new blood with fresh ideas will be injected into the body.

During the AGM, some members of the current board are expected to contest again having just served for one term.

Among others, positions to be contested for during the AGM include that of chairperson, vice-chairperson, treasurer, board secretary, publicity secretary and committee members.

The current executive board, which was initially headed by Bishop James Tengatenga, formerly of the Anglican Church’s Southern Malawi Diocese, was ushered into office in May 2013 for a three-year term.

However, Tengatenga resigned barely two months after his election when he relocated to United States of America (USA) for his new undertakings.

Subsequently, a joint meeting of the organisation’s executive committee and the board of trustees held in December 2013 appointed Blantyre CCAP Synod’s Reverend Felix Chingota (then vice-chairperson) to lead the body until PAC holds the polls. n
