Rotary Club Limbe Golf raises K5.5m

Rotary Club Limbe has raised K5.5 million from a charity golf tournament held at Country Club Limbe (CCL)on Sunday which attracted 70 golfers.

Rotarian Bernard Ndau, who was also the convener of the tournament, said the money raised will go towards some of the club’s 20 projects.

He said: “This is a record because last year we raised about K2.5 million.

“We are involved in a lot of projects such as constructing school blocks and bridges and we are very thankful to organisations, companies and individuals which assisted us.”

He said they hosted the tournament at CCL “because it is our spiritual home”.

On the golf course, 12-handicaped (h/c) Ronwell Malikita emerged champion with 39 points and was offered a night for two at Game Haven Lodge in Bvumbwe, Thyolo as his prize. However, he in turn donated the prize to the Rotary Club for auction.

CCL golf captain Yotam Saka (15h/c) was the runner-up with 38 points. He counted out Ian Bonongwe (13h/c), who is also a Rotarian.

The only two female participants Stella Hara and Maggie Mukwena were also honoured.

Alfred Chikale had the longest drive on hole 17 while Bob Abby was nearest to the pin.

Orpa Khoromana, director of Nali Limited who were among the sponsors, said being an indigenous Malawian company, they thought it wise to give back to the community.

“We are always inspired to support charity causes,” she said.

Other companies that also bankrolled the event, include TNM plc, Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra), Castel Malawi and CDH Investment Bank. n
