Salima District Council plans to develop a website that will act as a platform for sharing information with the public and tourists.

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, Salima District Council spokesperson Watson Maingo said plans are at an advanced stage.

Tourist attraction places will be featured on the website

He said the plans follow the installation of government-sponsored high speed Internet powered by global wide area network (Gwan) at the council offices.

“We have so far managed to solicit all necessary information to be used on the site. We want to bring forth a better platform for information sharing with our stakeholders who for a long time have been looking for such information,” he said.

Maingo said the site will not be dormant because they have put in place structures that will ensure that the site is updated from time to time.

In his remarks, district tourism officer Japhet Kuweluza hailed the plans, saying the website will boost the tourism sector in the lakeshore district and beyond.

Salima is one of the fast growing business districts in the Central Region. It has over 80 hospitality facilities. The district also hosts local and international entertainment events on the shores of Lake Malawi.n
