Teacher impregnates girl, commits suicide

Head teacher for Mduwa Primary School in Mchinji District has committed suicide.

The 55-year Laini Chirwa of Chiosya Village in Mchinji is believed to have committed suicide after he impregnated a pupil. Mchinni Police Station Spokesperson Kaitano Lubrino confirmed the death of Chirwa.

According to Lubrino, Chirwa was being accused of impregnating a pupil.

“This speculation triggered his wife Loveness, 36, to confront the
husband over the issue. This did not go well on either side, which led to a misunderstanding between the two,” Lubrino said.

Following the argument with his wife, it is believed that Chirwa hang himself to a tree.

“He was found hanging from one of the trees in the school’s
woodlot,” said Lubrino.
He said postmortem conducted at Mikundi Health Centre revealed that death was due to strangulation.
