He noted that girls equipped with relevant knowledge and skills on maternal health are able to make rightful decisions of their life.

Phiri said this could gradually help to reduce cases of teenage pregnancies and marriages in the country which are on the increase despite various intervention to protect the girl child.

He said the training has accorded the participants with necessary skills to act as role models in their communities and share the information to make a positive impact.

One of the participants to the training, a Form Three student from Endindeni Community Day Secondary School (CDSS), Angella Chirwa, pointed out that the training has enlightened them on how to take care of newborns and young mothers in their communities.

She said the gathering offered them an opportunity to see how they could assist in promoting issues of maternal health and avoiding premature sex among girls.

WVM sponsored the training course which had attracted 33 girls from all the districts in the country.  n
