MultiChoice has said the ongoing GOtv Netball Champions League has proved that the game is competitive and can attract many people to watch it.

The inaugural league features the best five netball teams on the local scene, namely Blue Eagles and Civonets from Lilongwe, MTL Queens, Escom Sisters and Bingu Tigress from Blantyre.

According to the sponsors, the format has proved critical in terms of netball game tactics.

“As MultiChoice Malawi, we are happy because this is what we wanted. We want netball fans to see the best of the best in one venue, an organised tournament and create a new feel to netball in general. Malawi

“Queens are number one in Africa; so, we want people to start appreciating what our girls are doing. Netball is the only sport that puts Malawi on the international map.

“We designed [participating] team’s logos and created a special website www.gotvnetballchampionsleague.com where people can get information about the tournament and netball in general,” reads a statement from MultiChoice.

The statement further says the tournament’s coverage by MBC has helped in creating awareness and excitement for netball lovers. The MBC-TV coverage is also helping people to identify players, resulting in netball fans recognising them when they meet in street.

“All in all, we are happy to see GOtv Netball Champions League attracting people to watch the games live because this will encourage our players to give out the best. We believe with GOtv Netball Champions League, netball in Malawi will never be the same,” it says.

Malawi celebrated netballers Mary Waya and Linda Magombo’s comeback has also added colour to the tournament.
