Thirteen-year-old Taonga Kanthungo is among the three contestants who have reached the finals of Malawi’s sole music show, E Wallet, whose grand finale is scheduled for January 31, at a venue to be known by Friday this week.

The singing sensation, whose code is EW 6, is now battling it out for the K500 000 (about $1 515) top prize with EW 19 Wakhumbachi Kalua and EW 18 Guise Pemba following the eviction of Micky Monyo and creative dancing crew, Floor Steppers, during Monday’s  show at the Sunbird Capital Hotel Marquee.

The show started with musical performances by Trumel, whose time on stage was marred by technical hitches. Patience Namadingo then followed and mesmerised fans with his golden voice before another Nde’feyo artist Bucci dazzled the fans with his lyrical content.

The pleasant surprise of the night was when Piksy did a gospel collaboration with Namadingo, before performing his hit Unamata. Biriwiri followed before the first contestant made it on stage.

However, a splendid performance did not save Monyo and Floor Steppers as new MC Jordan ‘Ice Jay’ Mlotha announced that they had been evicted after amassing few votes.

“We did the best and we know they can only be one winner. We hope people have appreciated our talent and they will use our services,” said one of the dancing crew members, who was visibly distraught by the news.

“The winner will be determined by 50 percent votes and the remainder will be contributed by the judges. The idea of shifting the grand finale was to give people ample time to vote. Airtel is now on board as sponsors but we cannot disclose the amount,” explained E Wallet organising chairperson Felix Njawala.

Venue for the grand finale will also be determined by the audience through voting on E Wallet Facebook page. Voting lines open on Thursday this week.
