The festival is East Africa’s largest film, music and arts festival, bringing new talents together from all over the world.

Each year, some of the most captivating and cutting-edge cinema from Africa and beyond is screened in venues across the island.

Films are submitted based on a yearly theme—this year is ‘Season of Visions’—and entered into various categories and competitions. The final night is an awards night, where the winning films are recognised and celebrated.

“It is a great honour and I am so humbled that our film is among many films from the world that will be screened at the festival. Malawi’s film industry is slowly taking shape,” explained Chavula Mhango.

Some of the world class movies that will be screened at the festival include Half Of A Yellow Sun, a UK/Nigeria collaboration by Biyi Bandele, and Mandela: A Long Walk to Freedom by South Africa’s Sanjeev Singh.

“It is good news that B’ella was accepted to the Zanzibar International Film Festival. Honestly, I’m happy because this consolidates the fact that film in Malawi is indeed developing. Malawian films need to be a regular feature at international festivals,” said Nkhonjera on his part.

B’ella, according to the producer, is scheduled for premiering in Lilongwe on May 30 at Crossroads Hotel.
