20 Out-of-School Youth Graduate with Soap and Candle Making Skills
The Forum for Child Affairs Support (FORCAS) has announced the successful graduation of 20 out-of-school youth (10 boys and 10 girls) from Buluzi in Traditional Authority Kalumba, Lilongwe, after completing intensive training in soap and candle making.
The initiative, generously funded by Assisting Children in Need (ACN), was designed to tackle the economic challenges faced by many young people who are out of school and struggling with unemployment.

Over the course of the program, the participants received hands-on training in the production of liquid soap, bar soap, and candles. Beyond technical skills, they were also equipped with sales and marketing knowledge, enabling them not only to produce high-quality products but also to effectively sell them and generate sustainable income.
One of the beneficiaries expressed how transformative the training has been“This training has given me hope. I now have skills that I can use to earn money and support myself. Before this project, I had no source of income, but today I can confidently make soap and candles that will help me sustain my life and even support my family. I am very thankful to FORCAS and ACN for giving me this life-changing opportunity.”
Speaking during the graduation, Felix S. Misase, Executive Director of FORCAS, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in empowering youth.
The project underscores the vital role of skills development and entrepreneurship in reducing vulnerability, promoting self-reliance, and enabling young people to contribute positively to their communities.
