5 teams’ fate next week after licensing deadline
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) club licensing first instance body is expected to meet next week to decide the fate of five TNM Super League clubs that did not fully meet requirements by May 5 deadline.
FAM awarded full club licences to 11 clubs for the 2025 season following a review by its club licensing first instant body while five were granted licences with sanctions.

Civil Service United, Chitipa United, Songwe Border United, Mighty Tigers and Karonga United were given up to May 5 to complete the other requirements or risk being docked four points.
FAM club licencing manager Clement Kafwafwa in an interview yesterday said the clubs submitted required document on the area they did not meet requirements.
He said: “What is remaining is for the first instance body to meet to assess the submissions and come up with decisions.”
The five teams risk being deducted four points and a further three points every month until full compliance is achieved.
On the other hand, Blue Eagles, Creck Sporting Club, Dedza Dynamos, Ekhaya FC, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Kamuzu Barracks, Mafco, Mighty Wanderers, Moyale Barracks, Mzuzu City Hammers and Silver Strikers met the requirements.
Kafwafwa said the first instance body will also make a determination on stadiums that were not certified fit to host elite matches.
Civo Stadium in Lilongwe, FAM’s own Mpira Stadium in Blantyre, Balaka Stadium and Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji were not licensed to host matches.
Kafwafwa said they inspected the facilities and have also submitted the report to the first instance body.
“By next week we should be able to release the outcome. But we were impressed with the work the stadium owners have done so far,” he said.
Aubrey Dimba Stadium owner Aubrey Dimba said he was confident that the facility, which is the home ground for TNM Super League side Creck Sporting Club, will now be certified to host matches.
He said: “They have inspected the facility twice. They were here last week as well and they indeed told us everything in order.
“We are looking forward to an official communication so that the stadium can resume hosting elite matches.”
The newly-refurbished facility last week hosted a match between FCB Nyasa Bullets and Mchinji Villa FC which the TNM Super League giants won 3-0.
