Mibawa Multipurpose Hall in Blantyre is set to host an All Black and White party in honour of seasoned music promoter ‘Mr Entertainer’ Jai Banda’s 65th birthday on February 2.

Classic Events Management is leading the organisation of the event which has attracted musicians such as ‘Soldier’ Lucius Banda, Zeze Kingston, Gibo Pearson, Lulu, Black Missionaries Band, Anthony Makondetsa, Denis Kalimbe and Skeffa Chimoto.

Speaking in an interview yesterday, Classic Events Management director Edson Kawalala said they regard Jai Banda as the father and founder of entertainment in this country.

He said: “We thought it wise to celebrate with him and organise this event on his special day as a way of saying thank you for what he has done to the entertainment industry in Malawi.”

Kawalala said fun lovers should expect all-round fun, including live performances, drinks, food, shisha and indoor games.

One of the special guests, Kalimbe, said considering what Jai Banda has done to the industry, it is only prudent that he is celebrated.

“Many arts players have benefitted from his passion and dedication towards music in the country. As for Ndirande Anglican Voices, he paid for the recording of one of our albums. He deserves the recognition,” he said.

On his part, Jai Banda said he feels humbled to be appreciated while alive. He said when he started out, he did not know that the impact of his contribution would transcend to such boundaries.

Mr Entertainer said he is pleased that the sector seems to be taking the right direction as more artists are earning more money that their craft deserves.

Through Entertainers Promotions, Jai Banda has over the years promoted both up-and-coming and established musicians in the country.
