AAM election nominations close today

Nomination of contestants for Athletics Association of Malawi (AAM) executive committee elections slated for November 19 will close today, the association’s incumbent president Godfrey Phiri has confirmed.

Phiri also said scrutiny for the nominated persons will be done jointly with the Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) tomorrow to see if they meet the requirements.

“The requirements include active membership in athletics for not less than five years and that aspirants should have reached 25 years of age,” he said.

Six positions will be up for grabs at the polls scheduled for Salima including the hot seat of president and general secretary (GS).

Meanwhile, Phiri has since declared that he will seek re-election so, too, the incumbent GS Frank Chitembeya.

“We are both seeking re-election and I have already handed in my application. I want to continue with my vision of reviving the sport by, among other things, attracting more corporate partners,” said Phiri.

The aspirants are required to go through regions in submitting their applications which will, in turn, be forwarded to AAM with a copy going to MNCS who will be the returning officers. n
