The assistance comes a few days after some Mzuzu-based Bullets fans contributed towards buying an artificial limb for the former shot-stopper, whose leg was amputated at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe after being diagnosed with cancer.

The WhatsApp group’s secretary Edson Suwedi Mwapeya said they decided to assist Lunda after learning that he is struggling.

“We discussed Lunda’s situation as a group and we thought it wise to assist him,” he said.

Lunda, who played for Bullets in the early 2000, expressed gratitude to the supporters for kind gesture.

“I do not know how to thank the supporters for their relentless effort to see me in good health,” the Nkhotakota-based ex-goalkeeper said.

Bullets supporters director Stone Mwamadi said: “It is good to note that our former goalkeeper and his family are able to have a peace of mind through this kind of support.”

Lunda had a stint with Dwasco FC  (now Dwangwa United )before switching to Bullets and searching for greener pastures in South Africa in 2011.
