Genetrix Men maintain unbeaten run

Genetrix Men on Tuesday drew 0-0 against Kenya Western Jaguars in the ongoing Africa Cup for Club Champions at the National Hockey Stadium in Blantyre.

The result did not only help the national champions to maintain their grip at the top of the seven-team log table, but also meant they are the only unbeaten Malawian team.

The draw is also the best result that a Malawian side has registered against a foreign team in the continental championship.

Before Wedneday’s matches, Genetrix Men were leading with 10 points from four games, having won three and drawn one.

Defending champions Sharkia of Egypt were second on nine points from threestraight victories while Kenya’s Jaguars followed with seven points from three matches.

Genetrix assistant coach Floyd Chomba said they are happy with their results so far.

“However, it will be much better for us if we beat a foreign team on the turf. We are capable and we will do it,” he said.

In the women’s category, Lakers of Kenya lead the pack on eight points from four games. The best Malawian performer in the division are Scorpions Ladies, who are fifth with three points.
