Youths venture into entrepreneurship
Nsanama Youth Network in Machinga has embarked on entrepreneurial projects to help transform lives of people in the area. The network is engaged in beekeeping, malambe juice production, stove manufacturing, irrigation farming and livestock husbandry.
The network’s chairperson Mphatso Chikaonda expressed his sentiments recently in Traditional Authority Nsanama in the district where he underscored the need to find best approaches to solving critical issues emanating from endless socio-economic woes in the country.

He said youths’ participation in various income-generating activities has potential to transform households from poverty to prosperity. He urged them to concentrate on entrepreneurship for the sustainability of their livelihoods.
Chikaonda, who is also Machinga District youth vice-chairperson, explained that the network has manufactured many stoves which are sold to community members and other neighbouring districts. They also sell refined honey and malambe juice.
“This is the sole motivating factor of making youths more productive and responsible. They need to be self-dependent in their families. We will, therefore, continue imparting to them entrepreneurial and vocational skills,” he said.
One of the initiative’s beneficiaries, Margaret Feston, thanked the network for the efforts in ensuring that communities alleviate dire poverty levels. She said Machinga District is often hit hard by hunger due to natural disasters.
