Embrace reading culture, learners told

Nyasa International Academy has called on learners to revive their love for reading books to boost knowledge, creativity and academic performance.

Speaking on Thursday during the school’s open day in Blantyre, educator Aisha Panjwani emphasised the importance of nurturing a strong reading culture among learners.

She said: “As educators, we observed that with the rise of technology, students are often consuming information passively. But reading requires the mind to slow down, engage and imagine.

“When we read, we visualise scenes, connect ideas and develop critical thinking all of which are essential for deeper learning.”

Panjwani also said the school is committed to helping learners rediscover the power of imagination through books.

She said: “We want our students to build their own mental images and interpretations, rather than relying on a screen to do it for them. This kind of active engagement shapes independent, thoughtful individuals.

“As a school, we are focusing on building a strong, value-based community because our aim is to grow together as a supportive learning family.”

One of the parents, Theresa Kachuma commended the school for promoting the reading culture.

“It is amazing to have a school like this where each learner gets individual attention and the learning environment supports both growth and excellence,” she said.

Student Mohamad Mu’taz Elbella Omar said it was good to learn how reading books would help improve his knowledge
