Idana seals ‘bank to bank’ deal
Silver Strikers midfielder Chimwemwe Idana has completed a move to MTN Super League giants Zambia National Commercial Bank Football Club (Zanaco FC).
The Bankers in a statement yesterday confirmed Idana’s departure after playing for the Lilongwe-based outfit for three seasons to join Zanaco, who coincidentally are also nicknamed The Bankers.
The statement reads in part: “Midfield maestro Chimwemwe Idana has left the club after spending a good three years with us
“The extraordinary midfielder last played for Silver Strikers in our 3-1 win against Karonga United on Wednesday, June 25, where he christened his farewell match with a player of the match performance and a goal. The jersey number 44, with a deft touch, is set to join Zambia top flight side Zanaco FC.”

Idana joined Silver Strikers on loan from Mbeya FCof Tanzania in February 2023, then later sealed a permanent deal with Silver Strikers in June the same year.
He leaves the club after helping them clinch the 2024 TNM Super League and was also named the club’s Player of the Season.
“He came to Area 47, he conquered and left an indelible mark in the hearts of many. The Silver Strikers board management, staff and fans wish Idana all the best in his future endeavours,” the statement further reads.
Football analyst Twaha Chimuka said Idana’s move to a foreign club was long overdue.
He said: “I think we discovered him too late. He was at his peak when he was playing for Bullets Reserves. That was the time when he was supposed to play for a foreign club. But it did not happen.
“He could have played for Mbeya FC, but it didn’t work out and he had to come back home.
“Now that he has clinched a deal with Zanaco FC, it’s good for him because he is in the twilight of his career.
“Currently, he has to play for money. He is no longer a Flames player. He needs a retirement package which I am sure he will get at the end of this two-year deal with Zanaco.”
